After graduating with a BA LL.B degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1985 and completing articles with Wright Rose-Innes at its then Kempton Park and Germiston offices, Richard was admitted as an attorney in 1990 and a conveyancer the following year. Richard has practised as a litigator in relation to a wide range of Civil and Labour disputes in the Magistrates' Courts, High Courts and Labour and Labour Appeal Courts for in excess of 30 years.

In addition to arbitration and litigation, Richard provides corporate and commercial advice, involving formation of companies, structuring, restructuring, business rescue, mergers and acquisitions (non-listed) and the preparation of commercial agreements to deal with a wide range of commercial dictates. Richard has been admitted as a Fellow at the Association of Arbitrators and has developed a particular interest in local and international Arbitration and is available for appointment or to be retained as Arbitrator or Mediator in disputes.

Richard has served as an acting Judge in the Labour Court on a number of occasions, is past President of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) and is a past Director of SASLAW Pro Bono NPC.
